Director, Darius Marder brought this film to light. On December 4, 2020, Amazon Studios received praise for the performances. Riz Ahmed (Ruben) and Olivia Cooke (Lou) made the movie more interesting dealing with changes that affected both of them.
Ruben (played by Riz Ahmed) a hard rock drummer loses his hearing. Entertaining along with his girlfriend Lou (played by Olivia Cooke) in a band called “Blackgammon”, Ruben discovers he is losing his hearing. He goes to a pharmacy while on the road to get some kind of a diagnosis. The Pharmacist refers him to a doctor. The doctor indicates that Ruben can only make out 20-30 percent of words and that his hearing is deteriorating. The doctor mentions that he can have a cochlear implant surgery, but it will be costly. Lou decides that she wants to stop touring due to Ruben’s safety. Ruben later ends up in a deaf shelter to get assistance. He stays with them for a while until he can get his surgery. He begins to learn sign language while he was there.
He later gets his surgery for the implants. Once the implants were activated, it caused irritating distortion. After months of not seeing Lou, he visits her. He realizes that he is not evening hearing correctly with the implants. He stays with Lou until morning. He decides to leave. He walks around the city hearing noises distorted. He sits down and realizes how is life is going to be, silence.
